About Me

Justin McClelland

I was born (November 23, 1980) and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri.  I graduated from Missouri State University in 2004 with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems.  Following college, I briefly moved back to Saint Louis from Springfield, Missouri.  I spent close to 5 months in an internship in Saint Louis before moving to Champaign, Illinois to accept my first post-college, sub entry-level job with what I thought was to grow into a dream job with a great company.

After about one year with that company, I was offered the dream job that I had hoped for, however the ‘non-negotiable’ salary offering was more than insulting.  So, the fact that it was apparent that I wasn’t going to grow with that company as planned, coupled with increasing mental and financial stresses of the then current sub entry-level position, I quit.

In June of 2006 and I was jobless and without career direction.  That summer, I spent a lot of time thinking of what I was to do next.  My ideal career path with the company that I selected as a first-choice since prior to college had failed me.  I worked various temporary jobs to keep the lights on.  With less than full-time, 40 hour work weeks and my night-owl tendencies, I was typically awake for countless infomercials which aired in the early morning hours.  The infomercials that really caught my eye were the famous Carleton Sheets and his No-Money Down real estate investing program and the InvesTools stock investing software.  One night while gazing at these commercials I had an epiphany, there were way too many ways to make money to seek building a pseudo-stable career with another company.  I had gone on to purchase the Carleton Sheets real estate and InvesTools stock investment programs.  After the review of each program, I soon discovered that I would need more education, especially in the Real Estate field.  I didn’t feel comfortable only knowing the information provided by Carleton Sheets, so enrolled in a Real Estate agent pre-licensure course and obtained an Illinois Real Estate sales agent license.  The license was obtained strictly for the education, I had no intentions of being counter-productive and starting a new career as a Realtor.

After working a 9-5 for another 3.5 years, I decided to take the plunge as a full-time real estate investor in April of 2010.  Read as I recount all of the various experiences endured from day one to current.
